A major national moment of prayer is set to unfold as Christians across the country mark the 75th annual National Day of Prayer, held this year as America celebrates its 250th anniversary. Centered on the theme, “Glorify God among the nations, seeking Him in all generations,” the event carries both historic significance and a clear spiritual focus: calling the nation to honor God and seek Him together across every generation.
The theme comes from 1 Chronicles 16:24: “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” National Day of Prayer Task Force President Kathy Branzell said younger generations are increasingly turning to faith not just as a conversation about eternity, but as a source of hope for today. She pointed to Gen Z boldly sharing their faith on college campuses and during spring break, alongside signs of spiritual awakening among students across America.
This year’s gathering is being held at Statuary Hall in Washington, with leaders including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Dr. Rob Pacienza, Os Guinness, A.R. Bernard, Chaplain Margaret Grun Kibben, and Chaplain Barry Black. Evangelist Will Graham is also expected to reflect on his grandfather Billy Graham’s role in helping establish the National Day of Prayer.
Branzell also urged believers to turn away from complaint and return to intercession, challenging Christians to make prayer a daily habit rather than a ritual. The National Day of Prayer livestream is scheduled for tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, and the National Day of Prayer Task Force says the virtual broadcast will run as a 90-minute gathering.
