McBrain said he felt the presence of God during a church service and responded by surrendering his life to Christ, later describing that moment as life-changing.
McBrain said following Jesus did not make him instantly perfect, but it changed the direction of his life. Reflecting on his faith, he said Christianity does not make a person sinless, but helps them sin less, and he credited God with helping him leave old struggles behind, including alcohol. He also said his faith has opened doors to speak with others about Christ, even while remaining in a rock band often misunderstood by outsiders.
