On his very first day as New York City mayor, Zohran Kwame Mamdani revoked executive orders from former Mayor Eric Adams that supported Israel, including one adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism and another barring city agencies from boycotting Israel.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry accused Mamdani of inflaming antisemitism, while Israeli officials and New York Jewish leaders warned the move could endanger Jewish communities.
City Hall said the orders were rescinded as part of a “fresh start” after Adams’ indictment and that some may be reissued later.
