A pastor convicted for publicly preaching John 3:16 is now preparing to appeal, turning the case into a bigger battle over Christian freedom. Clive Johnston, 78, was convicted under Northern Ireland’s abortion buffer zone law after holding an open-air service near Causeway Hospital, even though he said he never mentioned abortion and never harassed anyone.
Johnston was fined a total of £450 and now faces a criminal record. Supporters say the case has become a major flashpoint over whether public Gospel preaching can now be treated as a crime under laws that were meant to stop harassment.
Johnston is now expected to appeal as Christians continue following the case closely.
