Pray for Iran’s Growing Church Amid Protests

American Christians are being encouraged to pray for Iran’s evangelical church as nationwide protests, sparked by a late-December economic crisis, enter their third week.

Despite an internet blackout limiting updates, human rights groups report at least 544 deaths and around 10,000 detentions. Some social media reports have suggested police officers joined demonstrators rather than enforcing crackdowns.

Hopkins, professor at Gateway Seminary, said Christians should focus less on geopolitics and more on supporting fellow believers. He noted that Iran’s church has grown under Islamic rule through house churches, worship in Farsi, and increased conversions from Islam.

He urged Christians worldwide to pray that God would strengthen the Iranian church and help believers persevere.
