U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio received sustained applause at the Munich Security Conference after highlighting Christianity as a defining foundation of Western civilization.
Rubio said the United States and Europe are bound not just by politics, but by shared history, culture, and Christian faith. He described the faith of early settlers as a “sacred inheritance” linking the Old World and the New, calling the West “one civilization” shaped by centuries of Christian belief and sacrifice.
He tied that identity to modern policy, arguing that sovereignty, border security, and national strength are essential to preserving cultural continuity. Rubio suggested that lasting stability in the West depends on remembering and defending its spiritual and civilizational roots.
