Hundreds of thousands of believers gathered in Addis Ababa for a powerful candlelit vigil ahead of Easter, creating a breathtaking “sea of light” captured by drone footage.
Dressed in traditional white, Ethiopian Orthodox Christians filled the night with worship, showing this was “no small prayer meeting,” but a bold expression of enduring faith.
Rooted in the ancient tradition of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, which traces back to the apostles, worshippers marked Holy Week after 55 days of fasting.
As Fasika (Easter) approaches, the vigil stands as a reminder of a people who “refuse to let go of their heritage,” gathering in massive numbers to honor Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.
