Shay Ciezki of the Indiana Hoosiers shared her faith journey on the What’s Up podcast, saying her focus this season has shifted away from personal goals and toward honoring God.
“I was just trying to glorify God in any way I can,” Ciezki said. “Not for my own personal gain. Everything that I’m doing this year is for God’s will.”
She explained that in previous seasons she set performance-based goals, but learned those outcomes are ultimately out of her control.
“At the end of the day, the ball will stop bouncing. That’s just how life works,” she said. “I just wanted to make sure this year I stayed grounded and faithful to God’s will, whatever that looked like.”
Ciezki added that aligning personal ambition with faith can be difficult for athletes, especially during injuries or losses.
“Our will might not be the same as God’s will,” she said. “And I just wanted to make sure I stayed grounded and faithful in the season.”
