Trump Gifted Nobel Medal in White House Meeting

President Donald Trump was presented with a Nobel Peace Prize medal by Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate María Corina Machado during a meeting at the White House.

Machado said the gesture was meant to recognize what she called Trump’s unique commitment to freedom, drawing a historical parallel to medals exchanged between leaders during the era of George Washington and Simón Bolívar.

Trump later wrote on Truth Social that Machado “presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize,” calling it a meaningful sign of mutual respect.

The Nobel Peace Center and the Norwegian Nobel Committee clarified afterward that while a medal can change hands, the Nobel Peace Prize itself cannot be transferred, shared, or revoked—the title of laureate remains with the original recipient.

Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize for her long-standing fight for democracy in Venezuela, which the Nobel committee described as resistance against an authoritarian state.
