President Donald Trump joined the weeklong America Reads the Bible event on Tuesday by delivering a prerecorded message from the Oval Office and reading 2 Chronicles 7:11–22. The nationwide Bible-reading marathon is being held in Washington, D.C., as part of the lead-up to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The passage Trump read included the well-known promise, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” After Trump’s reading, Ben Carson continued with 2 Chronicles 8 and Candy Carson followed with 2 Chronicles 9.
The event began Sunday and runs through Saturday, with participants reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation for 84 hours. Organizers say the goal is to call Americans back to daily Bible reading for the good of the country ahead of America’s 250th birthday.
