President Donald Trump is set to participate in America Reads the Bible on Tuesday by delivering a video message from the Oval Office and reading 2 Chronicles 7:11–22 during the 6 p.m. ET hour. The weeklong public Scripture-reading event was organized to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States and features a continuous reading of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in Washington, D.C.
The passage Trump will read includes the well-known verse, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Organizers say the event includes nearly 500 leaders and representatives from 122 ministries, with readings taking place daily at the Museum of the Bible.
Other public figures and officials are also scheduled to participate, including Ben Carson and Candy Carson, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and multiple members of the Trump administration. The initiative was founded by Christians Engaged president Bunni Pounds, who said the event is meant to call Americans back to the biblical foundations that have shaped the nation for 250 years.
