U.S. launched a major military strike on Venezuela Saturday, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and flying them to the U.S. to face charges in New York.
Trump said the United States will temporarily “run” Venezuela, stressing it’s only until there’s a “safe, proper and judicious transition.” He said the U.S. can’t risk another leader stepping in who would repeat “the same situation we’ve had for years.”
Warning that the military isn’t done, Trump said the U.S. is ready for “a second and much larger attack” if needed and made clear he’s not ruling anything out, adding, “We’re not afraid of boots on the ground.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Trump will decide what comes next, calling it a moment of American leadership where the president will “set the terms” and “dictate where we go next.”
