Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has signed the Human Heartbeat Act (HB 126) into law, banning most abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, typically around six weeks of pregnancy.
The law allows abortion only in cases of medical emergencies and does not include exceptions for rape or incest. Violations could result in felony charges, including up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Supporters say the law protects unborn life, while abortion advocates, including Wellspring Health Access, plan to challenge the ban in court.
